Firearms Group urges owners to renew gun licenses with PNP

Owners of guns with expired license have been urged to renew their licenses at the Philippine National Police (PNP) Firearms and Explosive Office (FEO) in Camp Crame which has been on-going despite the current gun ban.

The call was issued by the Association of Firearms and Ammunition Dealers of the Philippines, Inc. (AFAD) in a bid to encourage delinquent gun owners to renew their licenses. In a statement sent to Quezon City reporters, Hector Rodriguez, AFAD president, said the move hopes to reduce the number of expired firearms licenses in the country. He also reminded gun owners to secure a License to Own and Possess Firearms (LTOPF), which is a requirement under Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Act. Rodriguez issued the appeal as he noted the low number of applicants for license renewal in the PNP-FEO during the election season. The gun ban imposed by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) took effect last January 11 and will end on June 8, 2016. “The licensing process is moving. We urge gun owners to renew their license at this time while the queues in the PNP-FEO are not long,” Rodriguez said in a statement. After some of its personnel assumed election-related duties before the conduct of the May elections, officials of the PNP-FEO assured that operations of the unit was already back to normal and its personnel ready to process LTPOF and Firearm Registration applications in full force. Last May 11, PNP Chief Director General Ricardo Marquez ordered the lifting of the full alert status on all police units nationwide following the peaceful, orderly and honest conduct of the national and local elections. On the other hand, the AFAD cited the PNP for ensuring peaceful national elections last May 9.
